Paard ligt erg vaak

Even het volgende. We hebben een paard. Het is een Groninger ruin van vijf jaar. Hij komt een uur of 5 per dag in de wei waar in deze tijd van het jaar vrijwel geen gras meer staat. Op stal voeren we hem volop bij met goed grof hooi. Sinds ongeveer een week zien we hem in de wei regelmatig liggen. Hij blijft soms zelfs liggen als we er heen lopen. Meestal staan paarden op als je in de buurt komt. Toch maakt hij geen zieke indruk. Hoogstens zou je kunnen zeggen dat hij misschien een tikje slomer is dan normaal. Hooi eten doet hij gewoon goed.
Wat zou de oorzaak kunnen zijn van dit liggedrag? Het eerste waar ik zelf aan dacht was zandkoliek omdat het waarschijnlijk is dat hij bij het grazen meer zand dan gras binnen krijgt.
Wie heeft hier ideeën over of ook al eens zoiets meegemaakt????

Ik zou deze vraag op een paardensite zoals www.bokt.nl stellen. Denk dat je daar meer reacties kunt verwachten.

Heb je zijn temperatuur opgenomen? Is deze wel goed?
Eet hij verder wel goed?
Zelf zou ik toch even een telefoontje richting DA plegen. Zeker als hij slomer lijkt. Als je denkt dat hij veel zand binnen krijgt kun je daar ook wel een middeltje voor krijgen. Of even een tijdje lijnzaad geven. Zou het in overleg met je DA doen.

Op bokt.nl komen vooral jonge meiden die niet al te veel van paarden weten. Het is juist goed dat Ab zijn vraag bij Boerenvee dropt....Ik ben het wel eens met je advies om de dierenarts te raadplegen. Lijkt me in dit geval zeker nodig...

Dat ben ik niet met je eens. Op bokt komen ook zeker veel mensen uit de praktijk. Ik val zeker niet in de categorie "jonge meiden die niets van paarden weet". Aan de hoeveelheid reacties te zien die hier gekomen zijn is dit niet echt een druk bezocht forum.

Ik weet niet of het al is opgelost, maar ik denk dat je eens moet proberen om erachter te komen of hij last heeft van zijn hoeven.
Het zou kunnen zijn dat hij gaat liggen om deze te ontlasten omdat ze pijn doen. Denk dan bijv. aan hoefbevangen. Sommige paarden gaan dan niet in een karakteristieke houding staan, maar veel liggen en zijn dan sloom.

Wanneer een paard koliek heeft kijkt hij vaak naar de buik en probeert (wanneer het erger wordt) de pijn "uit de buik te schoppen".
Bovendien zijn ze dan juist onrustig.

Als je twijfels hebt is het altijd goed om de dierenarts te raadplegen.

Het kan van alles zijn, groei, hoefzweer, net ontwormd met ivermectine, Vit B 12 tekort, noem maar op, als je er geen goed gevoel bij hebt de dierenarts bellen.
Mijn Shire lag ook veel, een week later een acuute Ataxie aanval bleek een ontsteking aan zijn ruggemerg te hebben. Laat je ons weten hoe het gaat?

Hoe is het inmiddels met het paard?

Veel liggen in deze tijd van het jaar kan ook betekenen dat ie het koud heeft overigens.

Maar wat het ook goed kan zijn, is een worminfectie.
Of bloedarmoede.

Als je zelf niet voldoende verstand hebt van paarden, laat dan jaarlijks of halfjaarlijks even een dierenarts een checkup doen van je paard.
Zo leer je zelf wat bij, en weet je ook zeker dat wat je doet, goed is.
Een goed dierenarts kan ook voedingsadvies geven. Misschien schort er wat aan de voeding die je het paard geeft .
